Welcome to Tippy Canoe Sound
Tippy Canoe Sound (TCS) is an audio & video project studio owned by Brian Thacker. Currently located in Greensboro, NC TCS is setup for both traditional studio recording and remote recording. With three primary setups, TCS can accommodate projects from the latest versions of Logic, Sonar and Pro Tools. A fourth setup is being tested using the latest version of Ubuntu Studio and the Ardour Linux based DAW.
TCS started out in 1996 in Albuqueruqe, NM as a Mackie 1202VLZ mixer, a cheap Radio Shack microphone and a Windows 95 PC with a CD-Writer and a Turtle Beach Sound card. Over the last decade I have gradually expanded my studio, and in 1998 I recorded my first “professional” project which shall remain nameless, that lead to my second “professional” project which about drove me to throw away the entire studio. I think I ended up making about $0.01 an hour on that one!
TCS remained a personal project studio after that until 2003 when I recorded some demo tunes for the guitar player in my current band, Generic Hustle. Afterward we began recording GH’s first CD, in a process that took almost four years, several redos and some serious learning on my part. The final product turned out rather nicely for a 12×24 shed studio and has garnered more recording work. This site was started in December of 2007 as a means for communicating with current and potential clients. Like any website, it is a work in progress!
About the name… Tippy was my first parrot, a Maroon-Bellied Conure that I had for 10 years before she developed pancreatic cancer and had to be put down. The studio logo was designed by a friend of mine in NM, Anastasia Andersen, who is a phenomenal artists, decent poet, and I can’t comment on her harp playing since I haven’t heard it yet!
